Auto Body Straightening

When your vehicle’s frame, unibody, or structural panels are knocked out of alignment in a collision, it’s not something you can eyeball or “bend back.” Even small misalignments — a few millimeters off — can throw off suspension geometry, tire wear, crash performance, and how the doors and body panels close. A straight frame is the foundation of a safe, properly repaired vehicle.

At Hillcountry Collision, we straighten frames and unibodies using the Car-O-Liner BenchRack paired with the Car-O-Tronic electronic measuring system — the same equipment trusted by OEM-certified shops worldwide. Our technicians don’t guess. They pull every vehicle back to manufacturer spec, measured in real time, and verified before it leaves the shop.

We proudly serve drivers across the Texas Hill Country, restoring vehicles to factory tolerances with the precision modern cars require.

The Car-O-Liner BenchRack — Precision You Can Measure

Not every shop has one. We do.

The Car-O-Liner BenchRack is the industry benchmark for frame and unibody straightening. It’s the same system specified by major automakers for OEM-certified collision repair — and it’s what allows us to take on structural damage that lesser-equipped shops have to turn away or send out.

Here’s what makes it different from a standard pull bench:

What the BenchRack Does:

  • 10-Ton Draw Aligner — Pulls from any angle, 360° around the vehicle, with the option to add a second aligner for double the pulling force on heavy structural damage.
  • Drive-On Convenience — Hydraulic lift with removable ramps means we can load any unibody car, full-frame truck, SUV, or van quickly and safely.
  • EVO Universal Anchoring System — Holds the vehicle rock-solid during pulls without the need for vehicle-specific fixtures, so we can work on any year, make, or model.
  • OEM-Approved Equipment — Meets the equipment requirements of most major automakers’ certified repair programs.

Our Auto Body Straightening Process

  1. Comprehensive Damage Assessment Every vehicle gets a full structural inspection before any pulling begins. We identify visible frame damage, hidden stress points, and any structural members that need replacement versus straightening.
  2. Mounting on the Car-O-Liner BenchRack The vehicle is driven onto the BenchRack and locked into position using the EVO universal anchoring system. The hydraulic lift raises it to the proper working height — no shortcuts, no improvised setups.

  3. Three-Dimensional Measurement Before we pull anything, we measure. The Car-O-Tronic Vision2 X3 system establishes a baseline 3D map of the vehicle’s current geometry and compares it against the factory specification from Car-O-Data.

  4. Controlled Pulling & Real-Time Verification The 10-ton draw aligner applies precise force from the angles dictated by the damage. As we pull, the measuring system updates the technician three times per second — so we know the moment the frame is back in spec.

  5. Final Validation & Documentation Once the vehicle is back to manufacturer tolerances, we run a final measurement pass and document the results. You get a vehicle that’s geometrically correct — and the paperwork to prove it.

01 How do I know if my car needs frame straightening?

Common signs include the vehicle pulling to one side, uneven tire wear, doors or trunk that don't close flush, visible body panel gaps, or steering that feels off after a collision. Even small frame misalignments can cause big problems down the road.

The only way to know for sure is to put it on a measuring system. We can run a structural measurement on the Car-O-Liner BenchRack and tell you exactly what's out of spec — and by how much.

02 What's the difference between a frame machine and a bench rack?

Older frame machines pull damage with chains and basic anchoring, often without precise measurement. The Car-O-Liner BenchRack is a full straightening system — drive-on loading, hydraulic lift, EVO universal anchoring, and a 10-ton draw aligner that pulls 360° around the vehicle.

Pair that with the Car-O-Tronic electronic measuring system and we can verify the repair in real time, three measurements per second. It's the difference between bending metal until it looks right and restoring the vehicle to documented manufacturer specifications.

03 Can a bent frame really be fixed, or does the car need to be totaled?

Many vehicles with frame damage can be straightened back to factory spec — that's exactly what the BenchRack is built for. Whether it's worth repairing depends on the severity, location, and type of damage, plus the vehicle's value relative to repair cost.

We'll measure the damage, document what's needed, and give you an honest assessment so you can make an informed decision with your insurance company.

04 How long does auto body straightening take?

It depends on the severity of the damage and whether structural panels need to be replaced. A minor pull might take a day; significant structural repair with replacement panels and refinishing can take longer.

We'll give you a clear estimate up front and keep you updated throughout — and we won't cut corners to rush a structural repair.

05 Will my insurance cover frame and unibody straightening?

In most cases, yes. Frame and unibody repair is typically covered under collision coverage, though specifics depend on your policy and deductible.

We document every measurement and step of the repair, which makes the claims process smoother and gives your insurer everything they need to approve the work.

06 Do I have to use the shop my insurance company recommends?

No. Texas law gives you the right to choose where your vehicle is repaired. For structural work especially, we recommend choosing a shop with the equipment and certifications to do it correctly — like the Car-O-Liner BenchRack and Car-O-Tronic measuring system we have in-house.

07 Why does precise measurement matter so much for frame repair?

Modern vehicles are designed with crumple zones and structural members engineered to fail in specific, predictable ways during a crash. If the frame isn't restored to factory geometry, those safety systems may not perform the way they were designed to in a future accident.

Real-time electronic measuring isn't a luxury — it's how a frame repair gets done correctly, and how we prove it was done correctly.
