Under Texas law, you have the right to choose which auto body shop completes the repairs on your vehicle.
You also have the right to have your vehicle towed to any repair facility you choose and you are only required to have one estimate.
Rather than encouraging you to choose the shop of your choice, some insurance companies may try to get you to go to one of their preferred shops, a practice known as “job steering.” Most of the time, job steering is a recipe for a bad experience for the vehicle owner. When the national body shops get work from job steering, their goal is to keep their customer happy, which in most cases is the insurance company.
You do *not* have to use your insurance company’s preferred shop.
